Phil Cliftlands

I am a partner in BDO’s Audit and Assurance practice and the Regional Managing Partner for BDO South East where I oversee the operations of our Gatwick and Guildford offices, and our 400 strong team of audit, tax and advisory professionals in the region. Having previously headed up BDO’s Not for Profit sector, I have significant experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams acting for a broad range of organisations and continue to lead the provision nationally of our business assurance and advisory services to housing associations in the UK.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is supporting our many talented people, helping them to develop and achieve their potential. I am committed to delivering the highest standards of audit quality and to working with our local partners to serve the South East’s vibrant and diverse business community.

As a sector specialist, I have over 23 years’ experience of auditing Registered Providers of Social Housing, including the London G15 and many large national providers. I also work with key stakeholders in the sector such as the National Housing Federation (NHF) and the Regulator for Social Housing.

Outside of work I relax by spending time with my family and cheering on my teenage daughters from the side of a netball court. I am a keen sports fan and avid follower of most team sports, notably cricket where I follow Durham and football where I ‘enjoy’ watching Sunderland. I’m probably giving away my North Eastern roots! I also really enjoy cooking (and eating it) when I get time.
