Brian Murphy was elected Managing Partner of BDO Northern Ireland in August 2017, with responsibility for leading the firm and its 170 employees and for setting and implementing strategy in the Northern Ireland marketplace.
With over 25 years of commercial experience, he also leads BDO Northern Ireland’s Corporate Advisory business, specialising in value creation and improving business performance. He has advised businesses varying in complexity and size across a range of different industries.
Brian’s experience extends to corporate finance, corporate and personal restructuring and forensic accounting.
Within the M&A field, Brian is known for his expert and measured advice in finance raising, business and strategic planning and financial reviews. He is an active contributor to local press on current trends, challenges and opportunities for businesses in Northern Ireland and is frequently called to advise at a local parliamentary level.
As a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner, Brian has assisted numerous companies and businesses in developing and implementing strategies to overcome gearing and trading difficulties. He has also been involved in assisting businesses with performance improvement and cost rationalisation initiatives. As the former Chairman of the Northern Ireland R3 Committee (the trade body for recovery and restructuring professionals), Brian is at the forefront of developments in the recovery field.
Brian’s forensic accounting experience includes fraud investigations and civil recovery proceedings, as well as the resolution of commercial disputes. He has been involved in a significant number of public interest assignments and has worked with numerous government agencies.
