Executive summary

I lead our national Special Situations M&A practice, part of BDO’s wider advisory offering. I advise in special situations, often delivering solutions in an accelerated timetable where a full M&A process may not be possible and utilising insolvency as a delivery mechanism if required. I work across a wide range of sectors and have unique relationships with the turnaround community that add to other more traditional funding options.

I work in an approachable and efficient manner with a wide variety of clients (both sellers and buyers) and advise a variety of stakeholders (corporates, lenders and directors) in stressed and distressed situations, providing strategic insight and expertise on suitable solutions.

Although sector agnostic, I have in-depth knowledge and understanding of the market dynamics in a number of key sectors including Leisure, Retail, Travel and Technology. Notable recent assignments include:

  • Successfully carving out a specialist care operator in the Huntercombe Group from Four Seasons Health Care to Montreux Private Equity
  • The sale of Deltic Night Clubs, the UK’s leading nightclub operator, to the private equity backed Danish operator REKOM
  • Rescue sale of Dave Whelan Sports into Frasers plc

All of which were complex situations requiring careful stakeholder management and strategic planning to deliver successful outcomes.

Outside of work, I enjoy throwing myself into as much sport, travel and socialising as possible, and have recently found that golf helps combine all three quite neatly. I am also a bit of a foodie so feel free to reach out and share any tips and suggestions!

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
